Treat yourself like a compassionate friend and participate in this unique healing therapy group. Through ongoing action therapy-based participation, the group will use action-based methods to explore, identify, concretize participants’ sense of self-compassion. In this manner, a safe environment for trauma recovery is formed and healing becomes spontaneous.
Trauma-Informed Experiential Therapy engages the body through a set safety structures, slowly and safely moving the participants in a controlled manner to a deeper understanding of self, greater self-esteem and self-compassion. When safety, skills, and support art in place, trauma work can be done and deep body-based healing can happen.
Trauma sits in parts of the body that are not accessed by words. Thus, talk therapy is an act of translation, trying to give voice to a body-based experience for which there are no words. When we engage the body in the recovery process, trauma can be safely released and healing can be experienced.
Bessel Van Der Kolk, the leading trauma recovery researcher, states: “Traumatized people… are afraid to experience their emotions, because emotions lead to loss of control… theatre is about embodying emotions, giving voice to them… the secret is to go slow and… bit by bit.”
